Retirement Planning goes beyond pension provision. It requires a more holistic approach to planning for your retirement years, so as to both meet your individual needs and pro-actively plan your legacy. Often, retirement planning involves consolidating existing pension provision into a single platform from which you can manage your tax position and your specific investment objectives. There are many different types of retirement plan available, including ones that utilise the equity in your home or business, as well as pensions.
Retirement Planning with Talking Finances
We understand that for most people Retirement Planning is a series of phases rather than a single event and that this requires a flexible approach to managing a retirement portfolio. For a lot of our clients it can take a number of years to really get into the rhythm of retirement, and it is our job not simply to recommend appropriate solutions but also to facilitate discussions between them and their family about the overall picture. This is where our many years of building and managing retirement strategies provide invaluable and practical insights into the whole process.
More than ever, it is not a case of “one size fits all” when it comes to providing for retirement.
We typically break the process down into three key phases:
Phase 1 – ‘Pre-Tirement’ – A phase when you may still be working and using your retirement investments to ‘top up’ a preferred lifestyle and work a reduced schedule.
Phase 2 – ‘Active Retirement’ – When it is time to start working on that bucket list and trying new things whilst you have the health, confidence and time to do so.
Phase 3 – ‘Passive Retirement’ – When you want to plan for being comfortable in your later years and also to have appropriately planned your legacy.
